How to Overcome Alcohol Addiction

Overcoming alcohol addiction can be a bumpy ride. However, it’s not impossible. If you are determined not to relapse, you can get rid of an addiction to alcohol. Here are some ways that you should follow if you want to cut down on drinking.

Saying no to alcohol in beginning stages is a herculean task. You will be tempted to make excuses to chug alcohol even after admitting that you have problems with alcohol intake, but you have to control yourself, no matter how harsh withdrawal symptoms you feel.

Drinking is not worthwhile as long as you are not consuming it moderately. You can forget about your problems by drinking, but you will cause relationship problems and disturb your physical and emotional health. So it’s better if you quit or cut back on alcohol.

Tips for Retrenching Alcohol

Set a Drinking Goal

Choose a limit how much alcohol you will drink per day. Your goal should not be beyond one drink if you’re a woman or two drinks if you’re a man. Stick to this goal, no matter how strongly you ache for it. Schedule a few alcohol-free days every week. This will help you whittle down alcohol in your blood.

Make a Record

You should make a record of when and how much alcohol you drink. If you jot it down in your diary and compare your current alcohol intake stage with your goal, you will find a huge difference.

Make Your Surroundings Alcohol Free

Stop going out to booze. Try to avoid spending time with friends if they are also alcoholic as they would persuade you to drink more and more. If you can’t ignore meetings with them, try to have non-alcoholic drinks. Try to remove wine and whisky bottles from your home so you don’t get tempted to drink it on alcohol-free days.

Drink Slowly

First of all, don’t drink on an empty stomach. Make sure that you eat food before drinking alcohol. Take sips of your drink slowly and also consume fruit juice or soda water after each alcoholic beverage.
