Evolution from Soft Contact Lenses to Daily Disposable Contact Lenses

According to a survey, around 70% of the population has replaced contact lenses with spectacles either because they can’t wear sunglasses with their powered spectacles or because of the geeky look it carries along for an individual. But do you know about the evolution of these contact lenses, you love so much or why do they come with an expiry date, unlike spectacle?

The concept of contact lenses has been around much before than most of the people believe. Contact lenses were officially introduced in 1971 after the envisioning, designing, and a trial period in 1508, 1636, and 1801, respectively. Introduced in the 1970s, the soft contact lenses were very much popular among the people because of the immediate comfort it provided to the spectacle-users.

Soft lenses are made from the hydrogel, which is a gel-like, water-containing plastic. These thin and flexible contact lenses were better than hard contact lenses made of PMMA plastic. PMMA lenses are made of a transparent rigid plastic material, which is unable to provide oxygen to the eyes making them hard for the people to adapt. The silicone hydrogel soft contact lenses allow even more oxygen to the cornea, making them more resistant to the user.

With the soft contact lenses moving to silicone hydrogel lenses to coloured and daily disposable lenses, the evolution of contact lenses has come a very long way. Daily disposable lenses are great for an active lifestyle and need not be cleaned on a regular basis as the user dispose it every day. Because of the short adaptation period, daily disposable lenses maintain your eye-hygiene.

You can buy soft contact lenses online and offline from a store, as per your convenience. However, if you are considering using daily disposable contact lenses, get it prescribed by your eye doctor. Daily disposable contact lenses online are much cheaper than soft contact lenses online because of their made-up material and a more prolonged adaptation period.
